✨ Worldly Sorrow vs Godly Sorrow ✨
2 Corinthians 7:10 says:
"Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death."
Not all sorrow is the same.
-
Worldly sorrow is about the consequences - “I got caught,” “I ruined my reputation,” “I lost something.” It brings regret, shame that lingers, and despair. It focuses on self and does not lead to change.
-
Godly sorrow is when the Holy Spirit convicts the heart. Yes, there may be shame for sin - but that shame is only a doorway. It opens our eyes to the fact that we have sinned against a holy God. Godly sorrow turns us to Jesus for forgiveness and freedom. It produces true repentance, peace, and restoration.
👉 Judas felt worldly sorrow and it destroyed him.
👉 Peter felt godly sorrow and it led to his restoration.
The difference?
Worldly sorrow leaves you hopeless.
Godly sorrow leads you to the cross.
