The Beatitudes (Matthew 5:3-12, NKJV)

Jesus began His Sermon on the Mount with a picture of the kind of heart that pleases God.
These blessings turn the world’s values upside-down - and show us what it truly means to live for the Kingdom.

“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
→ Those who know they need God are welcomed into His Kingdom.

 “Blessed are those who mourn,
for they shall be comforted.”
→ Those who grieve over sin or suffering will find God’s comfort.

“Blessed are the meek,
for they shall inherit the earth.
→ The gentle and humble will receive God's promises.

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they shall be filled.”
→ Those who deeply desire to live rightly before God will be satisfied.

“Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall obtain mercy.”
→ Those who show compassion to others will receive compassion from God.

“Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they shall see God.”
→ A clean heart leads to intimacy with the Father.

“Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they shall be called sons of God.”
→ Those who bring peace reflect the nature of their heavenly Father.

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
→ Those who suffer for doing right are honored by God.

“Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you… for My sake.
Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven.”
→ If you're hated for following Jesus, you're in good company - and there's a reward waiting for you.

What Do They Teach?
The Beatitudes are not just poetic sayings - they are Jesus' own definition of a true disciple.
They reveal the kind of heart God blesses - one that is humble, merciful, pure, surrendered, and faithful through trials.
Let us live not for applause, but for these eternal blessings.
