What does it really mean to be under grace - not law?
Romans 6:14 says:
“For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.”
Some take that to mean, “I can sin and God will just cover it.”
But that’s not what Paul is saying at all. In fact, it’s the opposite. 🔄
Let’s look deeper ⬇️
📖 The Greek word for “grace” here is Charis - and it means so much more than just “unmerited favor.”
It includes:
✨ “The merciful kindness by which God, exerting His holy influence upon souls, turns them to Christ, keeps, strengthens, increases them in Christian faith, knowledge, affection, and kindles them to the exercise of the Christian virtues.”
Wow.
🔥 Grace isn’t just a free pass.
It’s God’s power working in you:
Drawing you to Christ
Strengthening your faith
Growing your love for Him
Producing real transformation
This is why Paul says,
“Sin shall NOT have dominion over you...”
➡️ Grace breaks sin’s power.
➡️ Grace changes your desires.
➡️ Grace empowers obedience.
So no - being “under grace” doesn’t mean you’re free to sin.
It means you’re finally free not to. 🙌
Grace doesn’t just cover sin - it conquers it.
🔑 Living Under Grace Means:
You're no longer trying to obey in your own strength (like under the Law)
The Holy Spirit is now at work in you, empowering you to walk in righteousness
Sin loses its grip - because grace gives you a new nature
So instead of saying, “I can sin because I’m under grace,” the truth is:
“I can now overcome sin because I’m under grace.”
